Grand Designs 10.13

Grand Designs. Channel 4 Television.

Here’s one of my framed images – Aster 1, size 30″ x 30″ – which was shown on last night’s broadcast of Grand Designs on Channel 4. The images on the program itself show an incredible transformation from the site which I saw when I went to deliver the work. It looked like a V2 rocket had hit it! I think the owners, despite the excitement of the project, are now mightily relieved that all the work is complete and that they can finally get a decent night’s sleep. I much enjoyed the hilarious footage of them planted the sedum/succulents/wild flowers on the roof.

Valerian. 6.13.

Valerian, Kent.

Walking along the coastline in Kent, near Broadstairs, you can look up to see numerous plants growing tenaciously in the chalks cliffs, especially  this red Valerian centranthus ruber.

Flowers, Swaffham. 4.12.

Artificial Flower Market Stall. Swaffham, Norfolk.

Wandering around the market in Swaffham, Norfolk, my eye was caught by this seriously colourful floral display.

Wild Garlic

Allium ursinum (ramsons, wild garlic) at Ilam, Peak District.

Seas of wild garlic just beginning to come into flower at Easter. I snapped these during a walk in the Peak District at Ilam, Derbyshire. Wild garlic has plenty of common names: Ramsons, buckrams, wild garlic, broad-leaved garlic, wood garlic, bear leek, and bear’s garlic.

Blossom 3.12

Blossom. Local trees.

Dozens of the ornamental cherry (Prunus) trees near my home are currently festooned with blossom.

Primula 26.3.12

Primula Vulgaris. Knight’s Hill Allotments.

Primulas seem to be everywhere right now. Resisted strong urge to dig these ones up & rush them to the studio.

23.03.12 – Blue Shed

Allotment Shed. Knight’s Hill Allotments.

Went to collect scaffolding planks which were delivered to the allotments yesterday, but sadly all had been snaffled. This peeling shed caught my eye on the way back. Knight’s Hill has an extraordinary mixture of natural and artificial colour.

9.3.12 Daffodils

Daffodils. Peckham.

On my way to the studio, cycling through Peckham, I noticed the first daffodils… Pedants: note my bike in background is precisely this colour of yellow.

9.3.12 – Viburnum

Garden. Viburnum bodnantense ‘Dawn’.

Despite being rather roughly transplanted from front to back garden, this Viburnum has provided flowers throughout winter with sweet honeyed scent. Just starting to fade now.

They’ve used my image of an Echinops bannaticus (globe thistle) for this new booklet.
