Chard/Frost 1.13

Frost, Knight’s Hill.

I’ve managed to get up to the allotments early on a few occasions this month to document some uncharacteristically severe frosts. Here the frost has built up on (someone else’s) chard.

Snow/garden 1.13

Snowfall, London.

Lots of snowfall here last night. And with so little wind, the settled snow makes for some intriguing shapes looking up at this vine at midnight.

New Forest

Fungus, New Forest, Hampshire.

Working in the New Forest, there are numerous piles of wood around covered with moss and fungus, thriving in these damp conditions.  Looking closer, I noticed  a shocking range of form and colour.

Cley, 11.12

Blakeney Point, near Cley next the Sea, Norfolk.

The Norfolk coastline is, even in November, so rich in life and colour. Just looking down at my feet, there’s Lichen, Sea-Blite, and Sea-Lavender.

You also get a lot of sky for your money in Norfolk. Looking up, here are a large quantity of, I think, Dark-bellied Brent Geese.

Lichen – Cornwall 8.12

Lichen, Cornwall.

More lichen, this time on the Cornish Coastal Path near Porthcurno.

Samphire 28.8.12.

Samphire, Norfolk.

Translucent spears of Samphire (Salicornia europaea) at Holkham Bay, Norfolk.

Bloomsbury 9.7.12

Bloomsbury Art Fair, London.

Here’s a closer look at some of the prints displayed at the Bloomsbury Art Fair  including ‘Narcissi 1’, size 30″ x 40″.

Bloomsbury 5.7.12

Bloomsbury Art Fair Preview, London.

Taken last night: The Gas Art stand at the preview of the Bloomsbury Art Fair. The show is on from 6-8 July.

Bloomsbury 2.7.12

Bloomsbury Art Fair. 5-8 July, 2012.

At the Gas Gallery stand I’ll have work on show in various sizes. Framed and unframed prints will be for sale from 8″ x 10″ up to 30″ x 40″.

Blackberry flowers. 29.6.12.

Blackberry flowers. Southampton.

Another humbling experience at the pristine allotment of my dad (81) in Southampton. Imagine a model/textbook wartime plot…

Frameless 15.6.12

Frameless Gallery. London, EC1.

Some of my prints are on show as part of Gas Art’s “Pattern & Process” exhibition at the Frameless Gallery in London. The show is on until 16th June.

Frames/Display 17.5.12

New Frames and Window Mounted Prints. Dulwich Festival Artists’ Open House.

We’re open again this coming weekend (19th & 20th May) for the Dulwich Festival Artists’ Open House. Here are a couple of snaps showing the new frames for the large 20″ x 24″ prints and a display of 10″ x 8″ prints in 12″ x 12″ window mounts.

Flowers, Swaffham. 4.12.

Artificial Flower Market Stall. Swaffham, Norfolk.

Wandering around the market in Swaffham, Norfolk, my eye was caught by this seriously colourful floral display.

Wild Garlic

Allium ursinum (ramsons, wild garlic) at Ilam, Peak District.

Seas of wild garlic just beginning to come into flower at Easter. I snapped these during a walk in the Peak District at Ilam, Derbyshire. Wild garlic has plenty of common names: Ramsons, buckrams, wild garlic, broad-leaved garlic, wood garlic, bear leek, and bear’s garlic.

Primula 26.3.12

Primula Vulgaris. Knight’s Hill Allotments.

Primulas seem to be everywhere right now. Resisted strong urge to dig these ones up & rush them to the studio.

23.03.12 – Blue Shed

Allotment Shed. Knight’s Hill Allotments.

Went to collect scaffolding planks which were delivered to the allotments yesterday, but sadly all had been snaffled. This peeling shed caught my eye on the way back. Knight’s Hill has an extraordinary mixture of natural and artificial colour.

12.3.12 – Frogs

Frogwatch. Knight’s Hill.

Lots of frog activity in a neighbour’s pond this weekend.

9.3.12 Arum leaves

Garden. Arum leaves.

Arum italicum ‘Marmoratum’ (Lords and ladies). This provides lots of engaging leaf colour which is much needed at this early part of spring.

9.3.12 Daffodils

Daffodils. Peckham.

On my way to the studio, cycling through Peckham, I noticed the first daffodils… Pedants: note my bike in background is precisely this colour of yellow.

9.3.12 – Viburnum

Garden. Viburnum bodnantense ‘Dawn’.

Despite being rather roughly transplanted from front to back garden, this Viburnum has provided flowers throughout winter with sweet honeyed scent. Just starting to fade now.

9.3.12 RHS courses

RHS Courses guide.

They’ve used my image of an Echinops bannaticus (globe thistle) for this new booklet.

9.3.12 – Garden Griseum

Garden. Acer griseum.

Paper-bark maple.

9.3.12 – KH Metal frames

Knight’s Hill allotments. Sunset.

One of our neighbours metal framework.

9.3.12 – KH Compost

Knight’s Hill allotments.

Compost heap with discarded dahlias.

9.3.12 – KH Teasels

Knight’s Hill allotments. Dipsacus fullonum.

Teasels in silhouette.
